A five-member Occupy Wall Street media-team crew is on the road, visiting Occupy movement cities across the country. Next stop: Detroit, Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 16-18. They’re bringing a film called “#whilewewatch” by director Kevin Breslin, and they’ve invited us to a special presentation and discussion.
Occupy Detroit is pleased to host our OWS guests and to announce the showing of the film at 8 p.m. Thursday, 1515 Broadway, Detroit, MI, 48226. Occupy Detroit uses the cafe and theater, called simply “1515,” for General Assemblies on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The showing is free, but donations to get the OWS team back to New York City are welcome.
“#whilewewatch” is the gripping portrait of the #OccupyWallSt media revolution. Citizens came together at New York City’s Zuccotti Park with energy, intelligence, guts and passion to share their message: We are the 99%. The film discovers the #OWS media team, who had no fear of a critical city government, big corporations, hostile police, or a lagging main stream media to tell their story.
Through rain, snow, grueling days, sleeping on concrete, they pumped out exhilarating ideas to the world. With little money, they relied on the power of Twitter, texting, wi-fi, posters, Tumbr, live streams, YouTube, Facebook, dramatic marches, drum beats and chants.
We witness a new dawn with the power of social media.
