Occupy Detroit Celebrates Six-Month Anniversary with public assembly at Eastern Market,
ox roast and open house at new Occupy Detroit Community Center
Saturday, April 14, 2012 marks the six-month anniversary since the opening march of Occupy Detroit, and the group has planned a day full of activities to celebrate this milestone.
WHAT: General Assembly
WHEN: Saturday, April 14, 2011; Noon to 2:30 pm
WHERE: Eastern Market, Detroit, MI
WHAT: Family-friendly Open House/Unveiling/Fundraiser
WHEN: Saturday, April 14, 2011; 3 pm to 11 pm
WHERE: 5900 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI
Beginning at 3 pm Saturday, Occupy Detroit will open the doors to its new Community/Activist Center at 5900 Michigan Avenue in Detroit. The center is intended for use by anyone from the greater progressive activist community of Detroit, in the spirit of building bridges.
The day will feature an ox roast, with vegetarian options available, and enough food prepared to feed 500-700 people. Multicultural musical and spoken word entertainment will go on throughout the evening, culminating in an open jam session (bring instruments) and a bonfire. Family-friendly games and art stations will also be available, as well as information tables from a variety of organizations that have collaborated with Occupy Detroit over the last six months.
Suggested donation $10. No one will be turned away because they can’t afford it. The event includes a raffle, with all proceeds going to the support and maintenance of Occupy Detroit’s new home at 5900 Michigan Ave. in Detroit.
