Detroit RALLY and MARCH

We See Genius

We See GeniusNovember 6th we watched the votes tally - We saw Michigan Democrats win the Senate. We saw the re-election of President Barack Obama and saw Proposal 1 come in with a NO vote. The next morning we found …

  • The Emergency Manager Law had been repealed
  • Detroit’s Proposal C to ensure Corporation Counsel retained independence and the ability to prosecute Mayor Bing

and what we didn’t get was a CELEBRATION in the streets. We were the ones and we thought certainly someone would start the celebration. We realize now that WE ARE THE ONES to start the celebration!!

Detroit Rally and March starts this weekend

WE ARE RALLYING IN THE STREET ON SATURDAY AT GRAND CIRCUS PARK AT NOON
WE ARE *MARCHING ON* CITY HALL MONDAY & TUESDAY MORNING AT 9AM
WE ARE *CALLING ON YOU* TO STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS AND PARTICIPATE – sitting through a revolution was never the way of accomplishing what is needed.

  • We are NOT WAITING 30 days to claim victory.
  • We are NOT WAITING for Detroit to have more services farmed out to private business that would have no responsibility to care for the public other than by terms of a contract.
  • We are NOT WAITING for the State of Michigan to push through new Emergency Manager Laws to “save us” from bankruptcy court.
  • We are NOT WAITING to develop a citizens plan for how our government will address a … [read more] Continue reading

People’s Forum – What Is Next?

Come one, come ALL to this very important meeting of the minds. The big question: Where do we go from here?

People's Forum Nov 11

Are you geared up for the People’s Forum?

This is NOT just for “Occupiers”. The Occupy movement has had great successes in helping to awaken new activists, changing the dialogue of the country, and contributing to the collective voice of the 99%. But most importantly, in Detroit, we have successfully collaborated with other amazing groups (such as Stand Up For Democracy, Free Detroit No Consent, This Hood of Ours, Moratorium Now, Housing is a Human Right, BAMN, to name a just a FEW) to help educate, raise awareness, and keep people in their homes.

Now is the time to open our minds and listening for more issues. Time to join forces with likeminded folk and tackle what is plaguing Detroit and surrounding communities. On Nov 11, we will be deciding future directions and collaborations. What are YOU passionate about? Continue reading

Occupy Detroit One Year Anniversary

ANOTHER DETROIT IS POSSIBLE!

One year ago Occupy Detroit swept through downtown from the Spirit of Detroit to Grand Circus Park with over 1,000 attending through the day and evening. Speakers spoke and let us know a NEW WORLD IS POSSIBLE – what it would take is being engaged in the movement to bring it from spoken word to a life changing opportunity.

Last year on October 10 a host of people came to Spirit Of Hope Church to learn how to participate as the Occupy Movement came to Detroit. That first night our numbers exceeded the capacity of the church and the meeting moved outside.

ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 14, 2012

We celebrate, reflect, and discuss the evolving movement and how Version 2 of Occupy Detroit will launch. Lessons learned, issues fought and continuing at present will be discussed. Those engaged in action, making a difference in their lives and those they touch will share how a movement impacted their live over the past year and what the FUTURE holds in the PRESENT and beyond.
