Earth Day Detroit 2013

2 day event Sunday & Monday

2 days of learning and community

A two day event is planned for Earth Day Detroit 2013 – Sunday April 21 and Monday April 22 to connect people with not only survival skills, but how to thrive in the face of an environment that can be difficult. Our risks include the corner store, abandoned properties, waste being dumped in our neighborhoods, and the corporate criminals polluting our air, water, and soil. Our intent is to bring people together not merely for presentation – we intend to have conversation.

We stand at a point for action at this time. Our schools, our future, and our city will never be the same if the current flow of actions are left to continue. We need your presence at this crucial meeting. We need your information shared and to share information with you.

We live in revolutionary times and the message takes place at a given date, time, and location. Those involved set the stage for action.

AT THIS BOARD MEETING

- Detroit School for the Arts has a spokesperson at the event. The true story.
- The EAA has several spokespersons...the true story.
- We still need someone from the EAA gradeschools: calling all parents and students and teachers!
- The MEAP scores will be deconstructed
- The finances will be deconstructed
- The legal update will be explained
- Teachers, come talk about your contract if you wish; there will be committee assignments for all students, parents and Detroit voters and tax payers to sign up.

School Supplies for Detroit Students — 25-Aug

Embrace Our Families To Rebuild Our Communities,” an event to provide school supplies for Detroit students — 25-Aug-2012 — 1-6PM

Where: 2243 Ferry Park Dr, Detroit 48208

Yusef Shakur and the Urban Network offers Detroit residents, and anyone interested in the education of Detroit’s children, an opportunity to contribute school supplies to students about to start a new school year. Put your pencils, pens, notebooks and all that where your mouth is Detroit metro, and help these kids start the school year right.

CVS will contribute the backpacks, but the kids need the stuff that goes in them. A good stock of supplies does more than outfit kids to learn, it gives a boost to their self-esteem and tells them people care if they learn. And people do care, right?

Give these deserving children a good send off to a tough job: school. Show up, help the students, and enjoy the party. There will be an inflatable moon walk, music, food and refreshments.

OccupyDetroit endorses this event and all of Yusef’s good work, and will be a sponsor of the activities.

Michigan Welfare Rights will also sponsor the event.

Embrace Our Families To Rebuild Our Communities

Anti-Emergency Manager Lobbying

Today bus loads of activists from across Michigan will come to the State Capitol to speak with legislators about the future of Emergency Managers, and Emergency Financial Managers. We are asking them to push back and remove laws from the books that equate to targeted suppression of the public.

This nation was founded upon the belief that each person has a voice worthy of being heard. Our government was formed to enable the public to participate in it in various ways. While participation is voluntary, the resulting government is what establishes the laws to be enforced. We find that Emergency Manager Laws have restricted the public’s ability to participate in government.

  • Petition government for change
  • Approval by the representatives of the people when managing collected taxes
  • Hold elected office as a representative of the public
  • Being a servant of the public – this public being people before corporations
  • Upholding ethical standards in government

Today we visit Lansing Continue reading
