Neighborhood Restoration Project Fixing Houses, One by One

Eco-friendly, glass-bottle window

Occupy Detroit is restoring the neighborhoods that our government has neglected, one house at a time.

Since late November, we’ve been working on houses along Goldengate Road in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park. The neighborhood  is about four blocks south of Seven Mile between Woodward and John R.

So far, the Goldengate Restoration Project has secured 4 abandoned houses. Two more and this side of the street is completely Occupied!

Some of the people restoring the houses are also using them; this is a work-to-live project. Each restored house becomes a foothold for work on the next. We expect the project to spread to other houses in the area.

We need more hands, including people who can lend skills like carpentry, masonry, plumbing. We also need materials including wood, plastic, insulation, brick, mortar, nails, screws, caulk, and more.

Bring tools that fit your hands.

Let’s work at creating the neighborhoods we desire.
